Health and Work Environment

As one of the Nordic region’s largest employers – with extensive production operations where most of our employees have physically strenuous jobs – we give work environment and health top priority. We work systematically and continuously to be a responsible, attractive employer with healthy employees and a good work environment. We strive to create a sustainable work situation, where our employees can successfully combine their work and private lives.

For PostNord as a service company, our employees are crucial to our continued success and high degree of competitiveness. We believe that a good work environment, low levels of sickness absenteeism and high levels of job satisfaction have a positive effect on quality, productivity, service and customer satisfaction. We know that employees perform better when they like their jobs, are healthy and have a good work environment. It is important for us to offer managers and employees the opportunity to achieve a good life balance.

Positive results and continuous improvements

We have been working with health and work environment for a very long time and have achieved positive results. We have succeeded in creating first-rate work environment programmes, a pleasant working climate, lower levels of sickness absenteeism, and dedicated employees. Our mail terminal in Sundsvall in Sweden, for example, won the ”Healthiest Workplace of the Year” award in 2009. But we’re not resting on our laurels – our view is that we can always improve and do more.

The success of our health efforts is based on the involvement of executives, managers and employees on all levels of the company, and also on the fact that we invest in health promotion, prevention and rehabilitation. Our efforts are adapted to each workplace and employee situation.

Healthy employees and good work environment

Health is one of the three focus areas in the group’s personnel efforts – the other two are leadership and teamwork. The focus areas are linked, and our work in these areas creates favourable conditions for good health, a good work environment, satisfied customers and well-functioning production.

Healthy leadership and personal responsibility

It is not enough that PostNord takes responsibility, creates favourable conditions and provides tools, support, information, activities and health services for its employees. Two other factors are crucial to the achievement of optimal efficiency: individual employees must take personal responsibility and take advantage of what the company offers, and managers on all levels must take responsibility to become involved in creating a good working climate with well-functioning work groups.  This is a mutual responsibility in which the employee can exert influence and become involved in several ways.

Motivators and specialists coach employees

We invest in health motivators in Sweden and sickness absenteeism specialists in Denmark in order to successfully reach all of our geographically dispersed workplaces. They work on-site with preventive health issues and health promoting activities, coaching, inspiring and educating their colleagues in areas such as nutrition, health, stress and well-being. Motivators and specialists receive training, materials and support to help them succeed with their work.

Recreation, leisure and social community

Social community is encouraged at PostNord. There are a large number of associations offering employees a wide selection of leisure, sport and fitness activities. Cultural activities, trips and competitions are also arranged.
