PostNord provides support to the organization Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières) by contributing financially to its work. Doctors Without Borders is an international medical humanitarian organization that saves lives and helps people who are suffering and in distress. It runs projects in over 60 countries around the world.
During the fall, plans were made for employees to be given the opportunity to donate the equivalent value to a charitable organization as an alternative to receiving a traditional Christmas present from the Group.
The employees were invited to submit suggestions regarding which charity should be supported, and they chose Doctors Without Borders. However, it proved to be difficult to implement such donations in practice. Tax rules mean that the company would have to pay social security contributions for such Christmas gifts, and the gifts would be considered to be taxable income earned by the employees.
The Group management therefore decided that the Group would instead donate a Christmas gift to Doctors Without Borders. The gift means that PostNord is now a field partner of the organization.
“I think it is an excellent choice, as it is an organization that does a fantastic job around the world, in often very difficult conditions. It is even active in conflict zones, where access to medical care would otherwise be non-existent,” comments President and Group CEO Håkan Ericsson regarding the donation.
