Zakarias Österling

Mail carrier

“It’s fantastic to be able to earn some extra money while you’re studying.” These are the words of Zakarias Österling, who’s studying Japanese at Lund University and working as a mail carrier on the side.

Being a mail carrier was not on the agenda at all, but then an opportunity suddenly came up at PostNord and Zakarias Österling took the chance.

“I thought it could be fun to try it for a summer, but it ended up being longer than that. I was surprised that it was much more enjoyable than I’d thought,” he says.

This is the job for people who don’t want to sit indoors, who want to get some exercise and stimulation and meet new people

Combines part-time job with studies

After working all summer, he was given the chance to continue. Now, Zakarias Österling combines a part-time job at PostNord with his studies in Japanese, working two to three days a week delivering mail in Slottsstaden in Malmö. For him, the job is perfect.

“It’s nice to get some fresh air, get out into the outdoors and get to know people on my round. I have really great colleagues too.”

Free choice of schedule

As a student, it’s a great advantage that he can choose to a certain extent when he wants to work. Zakarias currently has a fixed schedule, but if he wants to swap a shift or work more hours, this can be arranged.

“This is the job for people who don’t want to sit indoors, who want to get some exercise and stimulation and meet new people,” he says.
