We manifest climate leadership

Climate change is one of the greatest challenges of our time. The transportation sector accounts for a major share of global greenhouse gas emissions. As a leading player in logistics in the Nordics, it’s up to us to take the lead in the industry’s climate transition.

Commitment

PostNord’s overall climate target is fossil-free transportation and operations by 2030.

Targets

We have two interim operational targets, and two targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Performance

The below figures are for 2022 and compared to our base year, 2020. To find out more about our performance, please see PostNord’s annual and sustainability report for 2022. Some climate and environment targets and key performance indicators are reported on a quarterly basis, available in our most recent interim report.

What we do

To reach our climate targets we focus on efficiency improvements, reducing energy use, and switching from fossil-based to fossil-free energy. The transition to fossil-free energy is at the heart of our climate agenda. We use biofuels such as HVO and biogas, and we are investing heavily to reduce carbon emissions faster. By 2030, our fleet will be fossil free, thanks to lighter electric-powered vehicles and the use of biofuel in heavy trucks.

How we work

Green by PostNord is PostNord’s climate transition program, a virtual collaboration across markets and functions, for a fast, economical, and successful transition. The work in Green by PostNord is guided by the Green Tech Roadmap, which sets the strategic direction and deployment plan. The climate transition program is made up of a Deciding Committee, Centers of Excellence, and a Program Management Office. Experts from across the group work together in different centers of excellence and work streams, including electromobility, bio drive, subcontractor transitioning, net zero buildings, and rail and air.

Fossil-free deliveries in green corridors

More and more e-commerce customers are demanding fossil-free deliveries. In response to this demand, we are concentrating our climate transition in certain regions and parts of our network. By focusing on routes where we handle large parcel volumes, we can lower emissions and meet customers’ needs in a cost-efficient way.
