INCIDENT BULLETIN

Incident Bulletin 2 December, 2024

The Incident Bulletin is sent once a week, when there are major incidents to report affecting postal distribution.

This week's bulletin contains information about Canada and Italy.

Canada

Report date: 24 & 27 November
Incident: Canada Post Strike

Canada Post informs that the national strike continues.

  • November 24th all inbound mail to Canada were still being accepting at the airport even if there were no movement of mail in Canada. International items received as of November 15th were held in secure containers and had not been processed. As such, no scans of any sort were available, including item-level and receptacle scans.
  • November 27th all IPC members were told to temporarily stop sending all mail to Canada. A request as a result of the ongoing national strike by the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.

Due to the strike, there has not been any movement of mail within Canada and International items received as of 15 November remain held in secure containers and have not been processed. Therefore, no scans of any sort are available at this time, including at item and receptacle level. When service resumes, items currently being stored will be inducted, processed and delivered as quickly as possible on a first-in, first-out basis. Customers should expect delays as Canada Post processes the backlog and stabilizes its operations.

Canada Post remains committed to arriving at a negotiated agreement with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers.
