PostNord acquires Byrknes Auto in Norway

PostNord has today signed an agreement to acquire certain assets of Byrknes Auto AS. The acquisition further strengthens PostNord’s position in the growing Norwegian logistics market and in particular within thermo transports.

Byrknes Auto is one of Norway’s largest thermo carriers. The company offer services primarily for fish and grocery transportations. Byrknes Auto had sales of NOK 293.6 m in 2011. The number of employees was approximately 100.

PostNord’s logistics operations in the Nordic region had sales of approximately SEK 13 billion in 2011. Operations are focused on parcel, pallet, express and third-party logistics. PostNord’s logistics operations in Norway are run through Tollpost Globe AS, one of Norway's three largest logistics companies with NOK 2.7 billion in sales in 2011.

- Byrknes Auto has since many years established a competitive business within fish and grocery transportations in Western Norway. The acquisition further strengthens our position in the growing Norwegian logistics market, says Henrik Höjsgaard, Head of Business Area Logistics at PostNord.

- With the two recent acquisitions, of Harlem Transport and now Byrknes Auto, we take a strong position in Norway within thermo transports. We have sought to strengthen our position in Norway specifically in groceries and fish, as it improves our utilisation of linehaul capacity and creates opportunities for new organic growth, says Robin Olsen, CEO Tollpost Globe.

The transaction is subject to, inter alia, approval by the Norwegian competition authorities.
