The perfect fit for international expansion

For LANX Shoes, expanding into the Nordics meant matching British craftsmanship with local checkout expectations, creating the perfect setup for international growth.

Overseas expansion is often stalled by complex logistics. By tailoring its checkout and shipping to regional habits, LANX Shoes built the perfect framework for international growth.

Switching from UPS to PostNord and integrating local checkout options helped LANX:

  • Reduce delivery costs to the Nordics, allowing them to remain highly competitive.
  • Meet customer expectations by offering parcel lockers and service points via HubBox.
  • Scale up efficiently without needing to rebuild their backend logistics from scratch.

The LANX Shoes brand, an independent British footwear label known for handcrafted shoes and boots inspired by traditional design and modern lifestyles, has expanded strongly internationally in recent years. With a strong direct-to-consumer model, the company has built a loyal customer base through its digital channels and a highly distinctive brand identity.

"As LANX Shoes expanded internationally, the Nordics quickly became a clear strategic opportunity for us," says the team.

However, early international growth also revealed a structural challenge. Relying on a global carrier created excessive costs and a “one-size-fits-all” delivery experience that didn’t align with Nordic shopper habits, where flexibility and access to local pickup points are key expectations.

The rapid expansion into highly competitive markets like Sweden and Denmark is clearly reflected in how the brand had to rethink its logistics setup. Their existing arrangement with UPS quickly became an operational challenge. Shipping costs from the UK were high, making it difficult to offer competitive delivery options to customers in the region. To grow sustainably, LANX needed a more cost-efficient solution that also aligned with local delivery expectations.

The company management speaks often about their localisation philosophy and the importance of giving international customers the right checkout experience. Rather than relying on standard global delivery models, they focus on logistics data that reflects real consumer behaviour. In the Nordics, this clearly shows a preference for local postal networks and flexible pickup points over traditional doorstep delivery.

To create a more relevant experience, LANX leveraged its existing integration with Shiptheory.

Through this smart integration, PostNord was introduced as a primary carrier, enabling access to established Nordic delivery infrastructure. At the same time, HubBox powers the checkout experience, allowing customers to easily select local parcel lockers and service points. This creates a flexible setup that reflects how Nordic consumers actually want to receive their orders.

"To grow in the region, LANX needed a more cost-efficient solution that also aligned with local delivery expectations," the company concludes. "Continued international expansion into the Nordic region remains an incredibly important part of our company's journey forward."

Tip

Leverage existing integrations when expanding into a non-English speaking region. Instead of signing new carrier contracts from scratch, utilize tools like Shiptheory to plug into local networks like PostNord. Then, customize the checkout experience with services like HubBox so customers can use the parcel lockers and service points they already prefer.
